The Inspiration
With the Saint Joseph River design, we wanted to highlight & honor the history of the river, while raising awareness to the modern idea of the river as a hub of activity.
The canoe represents the indigenous people, such as the Miami & Potawatomi who used the river for travel & subsistence, while the Mishawaka Suspension Bridge represents a nod to the future use of the river as an area of recreation.
The Mishawaka / South Bend riverwalk area is undergoing a reimagined relationship with the St. Joe River, as evident in recent developments at the new Ball Band Biergarten in Beutter Park, along with the freshly renovated Howard Park in South Bend.
